Disk Space
Disk space or web space is the amount of space you are allowed to take up on the web host's hard drive. One of the factors in how much you'll pay for Web hosting is how much space you will need to store your Web pages. Disk space is usually reported in megabytes (MB).
Disk space is the base concept of any activity concerning electronics same goes for web hosting and Ecommerce.
The account you have in the web hosting company allows you to host your web site, store incoming and outgoing mail, create and manage databases. All that requires a certain amount of disk space on the web hosting company’s server, which is provided to you on different conditions, such as Individual Resource Quotas and Increasing Quotas.
Individual Resources Quotas are set separately for each Mail Box, Database and Home Directory and defines how much MB you can store in. In case you try to upload and store some MB over the set limit you’ll get an error message.
Increasing Quotas allow you to upload more MB than set by the quota to do this you should increase the quota. Though there can be max restricted quota, which means you can’t increase it any more.
Your Disk Space Use can also be checked by the system every 24 hours as it is summarized it makes Summary Disk Usage for the last day. All the received data are added for all the days starting from the beginning of Billing month to configure your Average Summary Disk Usage.
Exceeding your Disk Space limit is not permitted by the web hosting company, some of them provide liquidating of your account if exceeding quotas and limits of some percentage, in other cases you’ll be charged some extra fee for such excesses.
How Much Disk Space do You Need for your Web Site?
The amount of disk space you need directly depends on your web site’s characteristics and what types of files you are to use, for example, HTML files tend to be the most compact ones, as they require only 2K of space per typewritten page.
You also should consider that the amount of necessary Disk Space will also depend on your web site’s content.
