GNU/Linux is a business-oriented Unix-based operating system. Usually, due to historical reasons and for short, it is simply named Linux. It is based on system programs developed under the GNU project context on Linux core. Instead of this, Linux is supplied with a large quantity of so-called distributives in which GNU programs are connected with Linux core and other programs. The most famous distributives are Slackware, Red Hat, Fedora Core, Mandriva, SuSe, Debian, Gentoo.
Being a freeware version of Unix, Linux is becoming popular as a powerful, low-cost operating system for running servers. It is utilized as the basis for computer networks and used as the operating basis for Internet servers because it is cheap and reliable. Due to its stability, Linux has gained popularity with ISPs as the OS for hosting Web servers.
