Virtual hosting or subhosting is the service that allows placing websites in Internet on the hosting companies' servers. Physically, the company picks out some space on one of its servers for a costumer and provides the needed software. Usually, virtual hosting provides a customer with domain name registration assistance, multiple domain names that map to the registered domain name, directory setup for the website files, email addresses etc. The costumer needs only to have a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program to exchanging files with the virtual host.
Some virtual hosting providers make it possible for customers to have more control of their Web site file system, e-mail names, passwords, and other resources and say that they are providing each customer a virtual server - that is, a server that appears to be entirely their own server.
The distinguishing feature of this hosting type is that more than one domain names (virtual domains) are hosted on the same virtual server and sometimes even on the same IP address, each with its own domain name.
Virtual hosting fits for most internet projects in the network but if a project is becoming too large, it's better to "move" to a dedicated server.
